How Jade Calculates Your Insulin Dose
Working out an insulin dose by hand means juggling several things at once: the carbs you’re about to eat, your current blood sugar, how far it is from your target, and how much insulin from earlier doses is still working. Jade does this calculation for you.
What goes into an insulin dose
A mealtime (bolus) insulin dose generally combines two parts:
- A meal component — based on the carbohydrates in your meal and your insulin-to-carb ratio.
- A correction component — based on how far your current blood sugar is from your target, and your correction (sensitivity) factor.
Jade then subtracts your insulin on board — the insulin from recent doses that is still active — so you don’t “stack” insulin and go low.
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
Jade is used by people with Type 1 and insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes. Your insulin-to-carb ratio, correction factor and targets are personal, and are set together with your diabetes care team.
